Joseph Beatty, also known as “Beaty.”
Joseph was living in Detroit when he enlisted, age unknown, on December 18, 1861, in Company D, and was mustered on December 25. (Company D was composed in large part of men who came from western Ionia County and Eaton County.) He was absent sick or wounded in September of 1862, and declared a deserter on October 4, 1862, at Upton’s Hill, Virginia.
There is no further record and no pension seems to be available.
It is possible that he is the same “Joseph Beaty” who served in either (or both) Company M, Second Michigan cavalry and/or in Company M, Fourth Michigan cavalry.
