Eugene Smith was born in 1836.
Eugene was 25 years old and possibly living in Kent County, Michigan, when he enlisted in K company on November 19, 1861, at Grand Rapids for 3 years, and was mustered on December 23 at Detroit.
He was shot in the head and killed in action on May 31, 1862, at Fair Oaks, Virginia, and was presumably buried among the unknown soldiers at Seven Pines National Cemetery.
No pension seems to be available.
